Grand Correspondant
Grand Chef De Gare
Dean Golliher
Marvin Harris
Grand Chef De Train,
James Taylor:
I hope and pray that
everyone had a wonderful Christmas and that you were able to be with family and
friends as you wanted. As you know, some our Voyageurs are deployed overseas,
carrying the out their duty for “God and Country”. We must remember to keep
them in our daily prayers. I wish that all of you will have a most healthy and
prosperous NEW YEAR, 2008.
Everyone, keep up the good
work, we are almost 70%, our goal of 100% plus, prior to the Spring Cheminot
Meeting is well within reach. Let us not lower our sights, aim high and
we will hit high. Because, as we all know, we can only
hit what we aim at. Dave Wegener, Area II, Sous Chef de Chemin de
Fer, is currently is in 2nd Place, but only 1.87% out of 1st
place. Nationale’s goal is for all Grands to be 105%, and I believe that we are
well on our way. Remember, we want to give our Grand Chef de Gare Marvin Harris
a straight “FLUSH”.
Now, let’s turn to the
statistics of our Grande’s MEMBERSHIP; first of all, we are ahead
where we were last year, at this time, by more than 10%, and for that I want to
“Thank All of You” for your hard work. We are making steady progress. As of
Jan21 08 the Grande stands at 9.28%. Thirteen (13) Voitures have made 100%
or more:
Cheminots, Sous Cheminots,
Locale’s Chef de Gare, Chef de Train and all members of “La Societe des
Quarante et Huit Chevaux”, you are to be
congratulated for your great effort. To break it down a little more: 5 Voitures
are 90% plus, 11 Voitures are 75% plus, and 22 Voitures are 50% plus. Some of
them only need 1 to 5 members to reach the goal of 100%. HOWEVER!!!
We still have 6 Voitures below 50%. We still have one “Goose Egg”, which
hopefully will be corrected soon.
As I have said in previous
news letters, use every chance you have to promote the great programs of La
Societe. Remember that there are MANY outstanding Legionaries, both
men and women, just waiting to be asked to join.
To Voyageurs all: I can
be contacted best on my cell phone at 618-520-9265 or by
e-mail
taylor.jamesb@sbcglobal.net.
Remember:
“FORWARD, ALWAYS FORWARD”
Cheminot Nationale, Glenn
Adamson:
The holidays are now over,
and I hope that everyone had the very best of
holidays.
The Great Grande du Illinois is still Grande. As of this writing we are
at 69.28%. We are ahead of last year because of all of you.
We have 13 Locales at 100% and only 1 goose egg.
You all gave me the 4th Grande Chef in a row, 100%, plus all of the
districts at 100%. You did it for me, now is the time to go to work on
membership and give Grande Chef Marvin and Sous Chef Jim another 100%.
We are doing great and I know we can do it again. Please try to get your
membership in. Thank you all.
Grand Correspondant, Dean Golliher:
The Holiday Season is over
and I hope everyone enjoyed theirs. Now let’s get back to the business at
hand. Membership and our Grand Programs.

Grand Du Indiana has put
in a request to put on a Correspondant Training Workshop at Voiture
Nationale in Indianapolis.
The workshops are geared
for Locale Correspondants to answer questions on how things are done at Voiture
Nationale. They are informative and to the point.
Correspondant Nationale
David Rabius said the event is in the preliminary stages of planning the
workshop on March 15, 2008 at Voiture Nationale Headquarters, 777 N. Meridian
St,
Indianapolis, Indiana,
46204. The workshop will start at 1pm and should last 1 ½ to 2 hours.
Voiture National also
requests that if Locale Correspondants have a question that they need
Answered, please forward it
to VN so they can research the question to find an answer.
Question will be taken
from the floor, but it would help if VN knew before hand some of the
Questions to help the
process go smoothly. The room has limited seating so get your RVSP
Back to VN as soon as you
can.
All Locale Correspondants
in the Grand du Illinois should have received a letter from VN
of this Meeting.
Grand Box Car Directeur,
Wally Hammond:
I trust you all had a very
Merry Christmas and that not to many got the lump of coal that we should have
gotten, but have managed to eluded all these years! Also I want to wish all of
you the best New Year ever. By being the best we can be, will make this year
one to remember!
As Boxcar dir.,
I would like to remind you that I have Pins, Cards and Associate Cards available
for 2008. The Pins are $3 ea. and Boxcar and Associate cards are $1 ea. The
Boxcar cards are for Voyageurs only, but the Associate Cards can be sold to
anyone, Wife, Brother, Sister, mailman, waitress at your coffee shop, dog, cat,
etc. I know many of you have obtained and paid for your cards and pins already.
If you haven’t ordered any yet, contact me ASAP and I will get you what you
need. You can get cards or pins on consignment and pay for them after you sell
them. You also can send a check and I will send your order out the same day! I
would encourage all Locales to include the $1 for the boxcar in your annual
dues. Many of you do already. It is a good way to support one of our biggest
Programs. The NBCA is one of the biggest fund raisers and always presents a BIG
check at the Nationale Promenade to support other programs.
Let's start out the New Year with one
resolution. That will be to make The Grand du Illinois the Grand that LEAD all
the others to a successful year!
Help us if you
can!

Grand Americanism
Directeur, Jack Thurman:
I’m sure that most of us
at one time or the other listened to or participated in a conversation
About the lack of principals
many of our younger generation display. Many have no respect
For our flag or this great
country that it represents.
We set and blame the
radicals, parents, teachers, politicians, churches and etc, etc. Something
Should be done, you say, but
what can I do to make a change??
Have you ever seen the
smile on a first graders face when they receive a small flag from your hand.?
Have you ever listened to their innocent questions about our flag? Have you ever
Explained the meaning of the
stars and stripes that adorn our flag to a first grader?
Have you ever had that
feeling that you are making a difference? You should try it!! It
feels “sooooo good”.
As Forth & Eighters it is
our obligation and duty to save Americanism and we can with a little
effort. Make a call to your
local schools and set up a date and time to meet with all those
wonderful children and give
them a flag, answer their questions and be proud that you are doing
your part to save
Americanism by instilling the principals that make this great Nation to GREAT.
Together we can make a
difference and put AMERICANISM back in our vocabulary.
Grand Nurses Training
Directeur, Don Payne:
Let us not forget to get
your nomination in for the Premier Nurse of the year. All nominations
Have to be in by the Spring
Cheminot so that the committee can pick a Nurse.
It is an award that we
want to keep up , as Illinois is the only Grand having this award and we
are trying to get it to go
to Nationale. We have been asked to put in a resolution to have a Nationale
Nurse.
Let us not forget to get
Nurse’s Pins, I have a lot left to sell. They are $3.00 each. Pins are
$2.00 on consignment.
Let us support this
Program.

Verlin
Funkhouser and Wally Hammond,
Co-Chair
for Chef de Chemin de Fer Candidate, Ted Lang
Happy New Year to all the
Great Voyageurs In Grand Du Illinois. We wish you the best of Health, Wealth and
may your paths be smooth and trouble free!
As you all know Ted Lang is
a candidate for Chef de Chemin de Fer 2009. Verlin and myself have been asked to
co-chair his campaign for his election. Ted has been a dedicated servant to his
Locale, Grand and Nationale. He is currently serving as Sous Membership
Directeur for Illinois, Missouri and Arkansas. Ted has demonstrated his
leadership skills and dedication for many years and has helped the Grand du
Illinois achieve recognition we have not had for many years. Along the way, he
has instilled in all of us, the need to increase our membership and to get
things done TODAY! At times we all need an inspiration, and Ted has been that to
all of us!
We all know that it take a
lot of time and resources to campaign for the high office of Chef de Chemin de
Fer. To help Ted, there is a raffle in progress now that pays out $2,000 1st
prize, 1 prize of $1,000, 2 prizes of $500, 5 prizes of $100, and 10 prizes of
$50. There are only 1,000 tickets to be sold, and there are a few left. Maybe
your Locale could buy some or if you want some for yourself contact us and we
will get them to you.
After the first of the year,
there will be a cook book available from Ted's Committee, Lois Bigham and
Kathleen(Ralph) Barry are in charge of this. If you have some GOOD Recipes
contact them to get them published. Lois's e-mail is tlbigham@macomb.com and
their address is in the directory Terry Bigham resolutions Directeur. Send in
some recipes to make this a great cook book.
If your Locale could have a
fund raiser, and dedicate a part or all funds to Ted's Campaign, I know it would
be appreciated. If your Locale would rather make a monetary donation to Ted's
campaign please do that. We all need to pitch in. It has been a long time since
Illinois had a Chef de Chemin de Fer, so let's help him anyway we can!
We will be in touch with you
in the coming weeks!
Help if you can!
